Kilvrough Blog 2016

Between 20th and 24th June, 38 year 5 and 6 children visited Kilvrough Manor in Wales. Below are some notes about what we got up to. Photos at the bottom of the page.

Thursday 23rd June

Last day today! Groups were out climbing/ abseiling and caving today. Everybody had fun climbing in the glorious sunshine and the groups who were caving were very successful too. As you can imagine, we are all very tired but we have had a great week and are looking forward to returning tomorrow night. We will be boarding the coach at 3pm and hope to be back between 7pm and 8pm. There will be a sign on the door at school with further details. Tonight involves a lot of packing, shopping and claiming lost property… wish us luck!

Monday 20th June

We are here! We are all safe and well, with no travel sickness on the coach! RESULT! We arrived here, unpacked and made our beds (yes we will do this at home now too!) and then had lunch. The soup was delicious. We then separated off into our activity groups and thought about our aims for the week and what we wanted to achieve. Then we did some activities in our groups.

Miss Cheswick’s group began by doing the low- wire obstacle course, it was good fun but tricky to hold on to! It was a very good activity because we all were working as a team and we all communicated. Next, we did a thinking challenge with some pipes and a tennis ball. We had to get the ball to travel from one end of the pipe to the other. We weren’t allowed to move the pipe when the ball was inside. It wasn’t a great success but we all put a lot of team work into it.  (Jessica and Jayden)

Grant’s group began by doing a different obstacle course. It was tricky because we needed to communicate and this was tricky because everyone wanted to talk at the same time! It was also hard because you had to make sure you didn’t touch the ground or the whole group had to restart the obstacle course. For the final part, we had a team captain to help us with the challenge. The team captain on the obstacle course was me (Ethan)! The second challenge we did was the water challenge where we had to float the tennis ball to the top of the pipe, but the pipe had holes in  so some of us had to cover the holes with our fingers. Jake, Charlie, Dolton and I got very wet during this!! It was really good fun. (Ethan and Aimee)

Mrs Moore’s group completed a challenge where we had to walk from a hut to some tyres using only 10 blocks of wood, we weren’t allowed to touch the grass! We had to work as a team to cross the field without touching the floor. We communicated well and this made it easier. We didn’t have a team leader because we decided that we were all equal. After that, we had to work together to swing across “shark – infested waters” only using a rope attached to a tree! We also did a huge obstacle course and this was great fun! (Finn and Max)

Miss Northey’s group also did an obstacle course. I led one (Corey) and I thought it was difficult when we had to hold onto a rope and swing our legs over it and crawl along. I (Emily) thought this was great fun and it was easy! Climbing across a webbed wall was easy because you had something to hold onto and it was easier to grip and balance. We also did a stepping stone challenge where we had to cross a patch on the field. We each stood on a block of wood and then passed it along to create a “moving path”. If we stood on the floor, we would “be eaten by sharks”! It took us a long time to cross because it took us a long time to work out how to move the blocks and all cross the field at the same time! We had great fun (Corey and Emily C)
